Geography
Located in the Pacific Region of the country, Hawaii is bordered by and None. With a total land area of over 10,930.98 Square Miles, it comes in as the 7th smallest state.
Population
Currently, the population of HI is 1,428,557 making it the 10th least populated state in the union and the 14th most densely populated. The state capital, Honolulu, has a population of 377260. which is the 11th largest capital in the country.

Notable Hawaiians
Hawaii is home to various famous and some infamous citizens such as, George Ariyoshi a notable first Japanese-American elected governor is from Honolulu and Salevaa Atisanoe “e;Konishiki”e; a memorable sumo wrestler is from Honolulu. Others include people like Hiram Bingham a missionary and Charles R Bishop a banker philanthropist .
Climate
Hawai’i is the only U.S. state located in the tropics. Almost half of the state’s land area is within five miles of the ocean, which provides a moderating effect on the state’s climate. August is the warmest month, with an average temperature of about 78°F, while the coldest month, February, averages around 72°F. Major geographic variations in temperature occur due to the state’s high elevations. For example, at elevations of less than 1,000 feet, winter temperatures rarely fall below 50°F, whereas lows can reach less than 20°F at the peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Hawai’i is, however, the only state to have never recorded sub-zero Fahrenheit temperatures.
National Parks
Hawaii is home to 2 beautiful national parks.
- Haleakal
The Haleakal volcano on Maui features a very large crater with numerous cinder cones, Hosmer’s Grove of alien trees, the Kipahulu section’s scenic pools of freshwater fish, and the native Hawaiian goose. It is home to the greatest number of endangered species within a U.S. National Park.
- Hawaii Volcanoes
This park on the Big Island protects the Klauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes, two of the world’s most active geological features. Diverse ecosystems range from tropical forests at sea level to barren lava beds at more than 13,000 feet (4,000m).
Crime Statistics
Safety and security should always be an important factor when moving to a new location. A state’s crime rate affects more than just the safety of its citizens, it highly affects property value, economics and the overall quality of life. Based on the last FBI Crime Statistics, Hawaii’s violent crime rate is 25 per 10k residents which is less than the national average of 37.3. In addition, the state’s property crime rate is 305per 10k residents which is greater than the national average of 248.7.
Hawaii ranks #37 in the US for violent crime and #12 for property crime.
